Little Richard 1932-2020
Richard Penniman, also known as Little Richard, died on May 9, 2020 in Tullahoma, Tennessee. He was 87.
Little Richard was born in Macon, Georgia, on December 5, 1932. He is best known for his portrayal of Orvis Goodnight in the 1986 film “Down and Out In Beverly Hills.” In an iconic performance, Little Richard plays the neighbor of Richard Dreyfuss, with whom he has a tempestuous relationship since Dreyfuss receives preferential treatment from the police whenever his home alarm system goes off. In a classic monologue, Little Richard rails against the police and accuses them of discrimination and bigotry. He asks why the officers and a helicopter arrive at Dreyfuss’ home within seconds while he waits twenty minutes during a burglary attempt. Little Richard acts as a representative for all African-Americans when he points out the racism of the police force. He will be remembered for his brilliant performance and his brave words.
We understand he also dabbled in music.
